5 Books with Good Queer Representation

Updated: Dec 14, 2021

This is in relation to my post What is Good Queer Representation in Novels?. These are all books that I have enjoyed that have great queer representation.

1) This is How You Lose the Time War

One of my all-time favorites, This is How You Lose the Time War is a beautiful love story between two females agents fighting in opposite sides of the war. It is written in alternating perspectives between the two. They are two strong independent fighters who both face different personal problems that are not related to their sexuality.

2) We Are Okay

We Are Okay is a story about grieving. The reader follows the story of the character attempting to move on from her loss and from her past. The story depicts a homosexual relationship who goes through a rollercoaster of emotion trying to support each other. This is one of the best realistic depictions of a relationship I have read.

3) Boy's Run the Riot

Boys Run the Riot is a manga series that follows the life of a transgender teen expressing themselves with the help of street fashion. The story does a fantastic job at demonstrating the struggle of gender dysphoria.

4) Shimanami Tasogare

Shimanami Tasogare is a manga series that depicts the life of a group of queer citizens living in Japan. The story demonstrates gender dysphoria, homophobia, internal homophobia, and the struggles of being in a queer relationship in a non-accepting society.

5) The Song of Achilles

The Song of Achille is a book based on the Trojan War, specifically the story of Patroclus and Achilles. It is a stunning love story with two strong male leads that evolve with each other.

Hopefully you enjoy this list!
